Update on road paving schedule

The Department of Public Works has been busy this past week paving roads before winter weather sets in. North Road from Rutland Street to the Billerica line was paved last Saturday, reports Superintendent of Public Works Gary Davis. On Wednesday he planned to repave Skelton Road and to apply a preliminary leveling coat to Russell Street.

Davis said that next spring and summer he plans to finish the Russell Street repaving project as well as the remaining roads for which state Chapter 90 funds were allocated last spring. These include repaving Cross Street from Bingham Road to Westford Street; all of Fiske Street; East Street from Saint Irene Church to Rutland Street; and Lowell Street from the Police Station to Sunset Road.

Town Meeting annually appropriates funds for road repairs, which are reimbursed by the state through Chapter 90 funding. Davis said that next spring funding will be requested for additional roads, which may be paved concurrently with the roads remaining from this year’s list. ∆
