Carlisle’s cranberry harvest has begun

Boxes of dry-harvested cranberries are stacked in the Bog House awaiting sorting and packaging. These cranberries can be purchased at the Great Brook Farm ice cream stand.(Photo by Ellen Huber)

On Monday, dry harvesting was done with a machine that rakes berries off the vines and into wooden boxes mounted on the back. Operating the harvester is Great Brook Farm worker Francisco, followed by Chris Duffy and Enrique carrying empty boxes. (Photo by Marjorie Johnson)

After the dry harvesting is done, sprinklers protect the remaining cranberries from an expected frost. Flooding and wet harvesting is scheduled for this weekend. Wet-harvested berries are processed into juice. (Photo by Ellen Huber)
