On Friday, May 7, the Concord-Carlisle High School (CCHS) Combined Chorus, directed by Ms. Deborah Smith, attended the Music in the Parks Festival at Six Flags New England. The day started at the crack of dawn for the singers, who loaded up the buses at 6:15 a.m. The Chorus performed before a panel of judges in the morning and spent the rest of the day enjoying the many attractions at Six Flags. At the end of the afternoon, all performing groups attended an Awards Ceremony. The CCHS Combined Chorus earned a “Superior” rating, which is the highest rating given at this festival, and was awarded its first trophy. It also received the coveted “Overall Best Chorus” trophy, which goes to the highest scoring chorus of the day. Also honored was Kailey Prior of Concord, who was given a medal for “Outstanding Soloist.” The ensemble was also awarded the “Esprit de Corps” trophy for group spirit and outstanding sportsmanship. The weather could not have been more perfect, everyone had a great time, and the kids came back with an armful of trophies rewarding their hard work and dedication.
