FinCom relies on Free Cash to avoid override

After further review, the Carlisle Finance Committee (FinCom) has stepped back from an earlier override proposal, instead favoring the use of Free Cash to balance next year’s town budget.

At their February 8 meeting, members of the FinCom discussed alternatives to requesting a $150,000 override for the high school, or using free cash to avoid any override whatsoever. A straw vote requested by Chair David Guarino indicated that the seven-member commission favors the use of free cash to absorb the additional expense. While this is not final, it indicates that the FinCom members presently prefer the no-override option unless unforeseen events change the balance sheet.

The new recommendation was shared with the Board of Selectmen at the board’s meeting the following night. ∆
