Carlisle School Committee shorts, Jan. 6
• Budget voted. The Carlisle School Committee (CSC) voted to approve a budget for the next fiscal year (FY11) at a sum of $9,007,421, identical to the FY10.
• School Committee vacancy. CSC Chair Chad Koski gave an update on the process of selecting a five-month replacement for resigned CSC member Wendell Sykes. The Selectmen will provide names of people who have expressed an interest and a joint meeting to discuss the appointment will be held with the Selectmen. Committee member Louis Salemy noted the process of picking a fifth member may take some time depending on the number of interested volunteers.
• Policy reviews. The CSC reviewed the Carlisle School Volunteer Policy (09.06.2003). Assistant to the Superintendent Claire Wilcox explained the only change was to explicitly state that volunteers must pass a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) check before serving as a volunteer. The previous policy required volunteers to sign a CORI form but no mention was made of passing the CORI check. The CSC reviewed the corresponding Policy Regarding CORI Checks (09.06.2003). Wilcox explained the CORI form was removed from the policy since it is updated frequently by the state of Massachusetts. The CSC reviewed the Administration Goals Policy (01.05.2003), which had no changes. The CSC usually first reviews policies and then votes on them at a future meeting.
The committee voted to accept an updated Distribution of Information on Campus (09.02.2002) policy and a Student Records policy (08.07.2003). The Information policy substituted “information” for “materials” and there were no changes on the Student Records policy. ∆
