Cross-country team fared well at states

The CCHS Boys Varsity Cross-country Team had a great season. It was undefeated in the Dual County League (DCL.) The team had a lot of depth, with eight strong runners, including seniors Phil Lavely, Kevin Clarke and junior Tim Lamere, all from Carlisle and four runners

from Concord.

Captain Phil Lavely said, “The cross-country season was much better than in recent years. Unfortunately, at the DCL Championship we didn’t keep that [winning streak] and came in second to Lincoln-Sudbury.” The team went on to come in second at the Eastern Massachusetts State Meet (EMass). Lavely said, “We came in second to Mansfield. That was a pretty great accomplishment for us.” Last year, the team came in eighth.

“The team is incredible. The unity is quite something. Everyone feels connected,” said Lavely. Each feels the others’ pains and gains. “We hate to see anyone have a bad day or a bad race.”

At the State Championship Meet in Northfield this past weekend, the CCHS Cross-Country Team came in eighth overall. Lavely said, “It’s not quite what we were looking for, but still good.”

Three of the varsity team members will be returning next year. Other cross-country team members from Carlisle are: senior Richard Carey, juniors Drew Albano, Chris Burham, Dean Cote, Sean Fidler, Adam Koski, Ben Parra, Ben Parson, Joshua Philippou; sophomores Derek Amodei, Andrew Chen, Alex Doig, Matthew Salemy, Larry White, Matthew Cuomo; freshmen Keifer Lavely and Russell Walton. ∆
