What is TOGA?

TOGA (Teens of Gleason Advisors) is the library’s teen advisory board composed of students in fifth through eighth grades. The members make recommendations on purchases and programs that will appeal to teens. The group meets monthly with the teen librarian and plans special events which are open to the public. Past events have included a movie night, a costume party and a Who-dun-it Night or Mystery in the Library program where attendees came dressed as characters from books.

Boys and girls who become TOGA members are recruited annually, this year at a meeting on Friday October 23, from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Hollis Room. Each year, new members sign a contract which is primarily about expected behaviors such as, share the snacks, listen to one another and attend the meetings regularly. Ideas initiated by the group that become library programs are funded by the library. TOGA activities are included at the library website: w.w.w.gleasonlibrary.org.
