Scanvongelli runs for Selectman

Peter Scanvongelli of 240 Hutchins Road has successfully completed the Nomination by Petition process to place his name on the ballot for one of the two open seats on the Board of Selectmen (BOS) at the May 12 Annual Town Election. Scanvongelli submitted almost three times the necessary 26 signatures. No one else has turned in nomination petitions and the deadline has now passed.

BOS Chair Doug Stevenson is running for re-election to the board and will also appear on the ballot. He was nominated during the Town Caucus on March 2.

Write-in candidates

Voters who are interested in running for Selectman or Planning Board or any other open position can still be elected via a write-in campaign.

For a write-in vote to be properly recorded, the candidate’s name must be written in a manner that allows the counters to properly determine the intent of the voter. If there is more than one registered voter in town with a name which is the same or similar to the intended candidate, the candidate’s name should include sufficient detail to easily identify which person is the candidate of choice. For example, two candidates named Mary Brown would require that the write-in candidate be identified as Mary T. Brown or Mary Brown of Barnes Place (vs. Mary Brown of Garnet Rock Lane). To make it easy, a write-in candidate can distribute stickers to supporters with the candidate’s full name and address. If there is no winner, the Selectman position will be filled by appointment by the Board of Selectmen.

The Planning Board position would be filled by joint appointment of the Planning Board and the Board of Selectmen at a posted joint meeting of the two groups. ∆
