Library Building project proceeds
On October 2, the Library Building Restoration Committee met to narrow the field of possible designers for the Gleason Library restoration project. Twelve applicants had responded to the Request for Qualification (RFQ) by the September 12 due date. Carlisle Administrative Coordinator Elizabeth Barnett noted that the committee needed to look closely at the RFQ responses and examine the personnel who would be assigned to the project. “It’s very important to look at what the people who will be assigned to the project have done, not what the firm has done.”
A first pass through the applications allowed the committee to quickly select two firms to place on the follow-up list. After considerable discussion, another four firms were added to the list. The committee will begin by focusing on these six firms although there will be no attempt to rank them further until references are checked.
Committee member Sally Swift, Barnett and Library Director Angela Mollet were assigned to check references on the selected firms. It was agreed that reference checks for a particular firm would be split among the three callers. Reference checks will begin immediately.
The committee will meet again on October 16 to select the firms that the committee will interview. The committee plans to keep to its original schedule by conducting interviews during the month of October. If all goes as planned, the project designer will be selected and the fee negotiated, by early November. ∆
