• Spencer B. Holland of Acton Street, a first-year student, and Emily A. Howe of Acton Street, also a first-year student, were named to the Dean’s List at Bates College.
• Fern Johnson of Acton Street, a Clark University English professor, is the author of a new book, Imaging in Advertising: Verbal and Visual Codes of Commerce. Johnson takes a look at how the verbal and the visual work together to create a language of advertising that speaks to audiences and moves them to particular thoughts and actions.
• The Concord-Carlisle Pee Wee 2s ice hockey team defeated a fine Weymouth PW team 1 to 0 in a nail-biting five-overtime sudden death game to earn the title of State Champions last Sunday evening at the Larsen Arena in Winthrop. Forward Matthew Boudreau of North Road and goalie Collin Bratton of Berry Corner Road were the Carlisle members of the team. Regis Boudreau was one of the coaches.
