Zoning Board of Appeals renews special permit

Kevin Stacy, who owns and operates a landscaping business from his residence at 570 West Street, appeared before the Zoning Board of Appeals to request a renewal of his special permit to operate his business. Stacy also requested that his permit be renewed for two years instead of one year and that the board consider letting him operate his business on a limited basis on Saturdays, which he currently is not authorized to do.

After hearing positive testimony from Stacy's abutter, Alan Lehotsky of 634 West Street, and reviewing Stacy's complaint-free year of operation, the ZBA granted Stacy the special permit for one year and allowed him to operate his business for extended hours during the week, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. as well as on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The board did not grant Stacy a two-year permit because they want to be able to evaluate the results of the business hours extension after a period of one year.

Additionally, the ZBA agreed to participate in the Liveable Carlisle Community (LCC) forum, as requested by David Freedman, which seeks to address issues such as creating diverse housing stock, and changing demographics in the face of the current tax problems. No date or time has been set for this forum to meet; the LCC is currently seeking commitments from all town boards to participate.
