ZBA gives Bedford Road furniture shop three-year permit
Ian Sampson appeared before the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) on December 6 to request a renewal of his special permit to operate a furniture/gift shop in the barn at 43 Bedford Road. Sampson stated that he had been in business for a little less than six months and that his business did not create a high level of traffic. Customers are seen only by appointment, and during a typical weekend, eight or nine customers visit the store. Abutter Laura Chelton testified in favor of granting Sampson's special permit. Chelton is also a business owner in Carlisle and is a longtime friend of Sampson.
The ZBA granted the permit to Sampson for three years, expiring in 2010, in order to coincide with the expiration of the property owner's (Francene Amari-Faulkner) special permit for the alteration and reuse of the barn at 43 Bedford Road.
The ZBA stipulated several conditions: of note are that Sampson could not display merchandise outside; the hours of operation are limited to 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven days a week; and three parking spots must be dedicated to the business. A unique street address of 47A Bedford Road has also been assigned to the business.
The next ZBA meeting is scheduled for January 7, 2008.
