Work progresses on new fields behind CCHS

According to Concord-Carlisle Regional School Committee member Peter Fischelis, Phase 2 of construction of the two new athletic fields is almost complete. The fields are financed by the Town of Concord and being built on Regional School District land behind the Concord-Carlisle Regional High School. Phase 3, which includes laying the artificial turf, is scheduled for next spring. He said, "The fields should be ready to use in the April - May time frame."

The cross-country trail, which was moved to accommodate the new fields, is being laid out now.

Tree clearing on the nine-acre site was halted temporarily last summer when an opposition group, Friends of Thoreau Country, filed litigation in Superior Court to stop the project. Since then, work has been allowed to continue while the lawsuit is pending.

The fields have not yet been named and the RSC has said that suggestions will be considered.
