Sorli Farm cell tower gains Planning Board approval
With a vote of 5 to 1, the Planning Board approved granting a special permit for construction and operation of an 80-foot monopole antenna on Sorli Farm at 1022 Westford Street. Brian Larson, the dissenting board member, was not persuaded that Omnipoint Communications could not satisfy its coverage objectives with a 60-foot monopole. Chair pro tem David Freedman summarized the conditions to be imposed on the permit: The structure is to be built such that it can be extended to 90 feet if another wireless carrier wishes to co-locate on the monopole. The applicant must send registered mail to potential co-locators announcing the availability of this 90-foot position. The permit will include requirements to maintain existing structures and trees that will help screen the facility from abutters and the roadway.
The hearing will be continued at 7:45 p.m. on November 26 for completion of the board's findings and conditions for the approval.
