Shorts from the Conservation Commission, September 27
· Boardwalk off Nowell Farm Road. Eagle Scout Candidate Christopher Bojanic of Clark Farm Road received a go-ahead from the Conservation Commission (ConsCom) on September 27 for a plan to construct a 56-foot-long boardwalk on a trail off Nowell Farm Road. The pathway, which is popular with walkers, bikers and horseback riders, crosses a wetland in an area with an existing, but inadequate, boardwalk. Bojanic and his team of younger scouts will repair and extend that structure while doubling its length. They plan to lay down concrete bumpers as a foundation for two x 1ten x two foot wooden planks and raise the off-ramp to level the entire structure.
This undertaking will fulfill Bojanic's requirement to plan, manage and successfully complete a community project in order to qualify for the top rank in scouting. He was accompanied by his construction team, his advisor Trails Committee member Mark Lemire and Land Stewardship Committee member Elizabeth Loutrel.
· 90 Page Brook Road. Wetland engineer Jeff Hanneaord, speaking for homeowner David Reed, presented a Notice of Intent to complete a septic system upgrade and relocate a well. The project requires considerable work within the 100-foot Buffer Zone of a Bordering Vegetated Wetland, a 200-foot Riverfront Area and an Estimated Habitat. Since it also is classified as a five-bedroom house, Board of Heath (BOH) approval may be complicated, and official ConsCom action was postponed pending action by that board.
· 36 Log Hill Road. Hannaford was also the presenting engineer for a septic system upgrade and construction of a new well for Vince Ciampa. He explained that the failed system is close to a wetland and well within ground water level. Because of the tightness of the lot, the old tank cannot be crushed and left in place: it must be removed to preserve space to fulfill the "maximum feasible compliance" standard under Title V. Therefore, this hearing was also continued to await a BOH variance.
