Carlisle picks Tsongas and Ogonowski
Niki Tsongas, from Lowell, is Dean at Middlesex Community College. She is the widow of the late U.S. Senator Paul Tsongas. According to her web site, nikitsongas.com, she is a graduate of Smith and has a law degree from Boston University.
Ogonowski, from Dracut, is a farmer, a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel, and graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. His brother John was a pilot killed by terrorists who hijacked his plane on 9/11.
Tsongas and Ogonowski will compete in the October 16 election for the Fifth Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Other candidates will include Kevin Thompson who is running as the Constitution Party candidate, and Patrick Murphy and Kurt Hayes who are running as independents. The congressional seat became vacant when U.S. Rep. Marty Meehan recently resigned to become Chancellor of the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.
