Greenough cottage update
Demolition of the old cottage on the town's Greenough Conservation Land is expected to take place in September, according to Selectman Alan Carpenito. He is supervising the project, which was authorized by Town Meeting this spring. The structure was judged unsafe and too expensive to repair.
Before demolition firms are contacted, Carpenito is working with Conservation Administrator Sylvia Willard and Superintendent of Public Works Gary Davis to mark out the limit of work on the site, in order to prevent damage to nearby soil or vegetation during the demolition. He noted that while examining the property they discovered the ruins of an old greenhouse behind the cottage. All that remained was a concrete slab, the remnants of an old boiler, and broken glass.
