CSC members to meet with Carlisle teachers
Carlisle School Committee (CSC) members Dale Ryder and Michael Fitzgerald plan to meet with Carlisle Teachers Association (CTA) members on July 12, said Ryder, as part of efforts to address problems between the faculty and administration (see "Carlisle teachers vote no confidence in Superintendent Marie Doyle," June 15). Ryder and CSC member Wendell Sykes spoke with Doyle on July 9. Because two CSC members do not constitute a quorum of a government body, there is no requirement that the meetings be open to the public.
In a phone conversation Ryder said the meeting with the CTA is part of the process of understanding the teachers' concerns, and CTA President Michael Miller will be at the meeting, along with two other teachers. Added Ryder, "In response to the CTA's concerns and the parents' concerns, the meeting is a good first step to come up with an action plan."
Response to the issue was briefly discussed at the town's Financial Management Team meeting on Tuesday, July 10. Selectman Tim Hult asked School Business Manager Heidi Zimmerman if the school budget had any money earmarked for a new consultant to facilitate communication issues and conflict resolution. Zimmerman verified that it had not been specifically included in the FY08 school budget, which had been finalized before the teachers' no confidence vote.
