Carlisle JV soft- ball ends its first season
During its inaugural season, the Carlisle Junior Varsity Softball Team finished with a 2-4 record. The season included many great moments, including a big opening day win over Hanscom by a score of 12-2. The other victory was a rousing 18-16 come-from-behind-win over a talented Lincoln squad.
The focus of the program was to work on teaching and reinforcing fundamentals of the game, and those who participated did a great job of working hard and improving every day. Great contributions were made by all, as the team was led in batting average by Michelle Carey (.455), Abby Samargya (.308), and Teresa Ventura (.294). These three were aided by the patience of Jackie Gray and Camille Galejs, who both walked ten times. Also helping the cause were Catherine Brennan, Anya Kaufman, Emma Frodigh, Susannah Krapf, Sam Blue and Lily Jewell, as their disciplined approach to hitting helped lead to numerous scoring opportunities.
Defensively, the team was led on the mound by Lily Jewell and Samantha Blue. Jewell proved to be dominant in several of her appearances by allowing only four hits all year. She also struck out 42 hitters in just 17 innings. Blue kept opponents to a .172 batting average, and picked up the win in the aforementioned comeback over Lincoln.
The Carlisle Softball Program should be a force to be reckoned with for the next few years.
