Huskies softball team finish season with 7-6 record

The Huskies softball team had an exciting and challenging year with a new schedule of competitive schools. The team was up for the challenge with eight returning players and nine new players. The Huskies finished with a 7 — 6 record for the season.

The team enjoyed strong pitching this year from eighth-grader Shannon Laughlin and seventh-grader Lindsey Verrill. They were intimidating pitchers! Rounding out the pitching duties were seventh-grader Bella Bjork and sixth-graders Madison Creighton and Colleen Laughlin. All three ladies gained some great pitching experience and we look forward to having them back on the mound next year, along with Lindsey.

Our returning catcher, eighth-grader Monica Diercks, was outstanding behind the plate. She was a calming force for all the pitchers. Backing her up was another returning player, seventh-grader Allison Lin. Allison was willing to do whatever was asked of her for the team. We look forward to Allison's play behind the plate and in the field next year.

Our eighth graders provided strength and ability to the team. Makayla Barton played first base with Michelle Solomon and Christine Learned at second, Morgan Evans at shortstop and Julia Lesses at third. Sophia Hantzis provided both infield and outfield support.

Returning players for next year include seventh grader Dakota Dray and sixth graders Belle Hankey and Liz Learned. They showed an eagerness to succeed and will provide the nucleus of the team next year.

We thank Jay Luby for his involvement, dedication and professionalism in officiating our varsity and junior varsity softball games. We appreciate his generosity in donating his officiating fees to the athletic program.
