Ballfields fail, Benfield Change Approved
At Monday night's Special Town Meeting in an extremely narrow vote, the construction of athletic facilities on Banta-Davis land failed. A two-thirds vote (66.67%) was required for approval; 197 (66.1%) voted in favor , 101 (33.9%) were opposed. The article which would have authorized an additional $578,600 to use artifical turf was not moved.
A change in the plans for placement of uses of the Benfield Land to allow housing to be built away from the habitat of the rare blue-spotted salamander was approved, 219 (85.2%) yes to 38 (14.8%) no.
