Sixteen of Carlisle's volunteer firefighters and crews from Acton and Billerica rushed to Woodland Road on Tuesday morning to put out a house fire that started as a short in the electric panel in the basement and spread through the wall of the structure. A 55-year-old woman tested positive for West Nile Virus last week in Billerica, Carlisle's neighbor on its northeast border. In response to the case, the Billerica Board of Health is working with the Central Massachusetts Mosquito Project to increase surveillance of the virus and to spray targeted areas in the town that contain large numbers of mosquitoes. ...more
