Planning Board weighs next steps for Wireless Bylaw Subcommittee
On May 22 Wireless Subcommittee members Kent Gonzales and Brian Larson asked for direction from the Planning Board for further subcommittee action. Prior to passage of the bylaw change at the Annual Town Meeting the subcommittee had recommended that the town consider wireless facilities on town-owned land or within town right-of-way along roads.
As a next step, the Board of Selectmen will prepare a Request for Proposal (RFP) for such facilities. Gonzales said that the RFP should be directed toward a specific preferred technology and mentioned two options: concealed monopole(s) on town-owned land or DAS (Distributed Antenna System) involving an array of small antennas on utility poles.
Gonzales suggested that within the present budget the subcommittee consultant, David Maxson, could assist in selecting the preferred technology. Before authorizing the subcommittee to move forward, the Planning Board decided to ask for concurrence from the Selectmen. Meanwhile, Maxson will continue assisting with preparation of the board's Rules and Regulations for Wireless Facility Special Permit.
