Girls basketball team finishes successful run

The Carlisle girls varsity basketball team had a very successful season, with every girl making a positive contribution. Our team had the drive and determination to push themselves during practices, working well together and giving each other encouragement and praise. Throughout the season, each player worked diligently and improved not only her personal play, but also as a team member who could respond to what was happening on the court. The season ended with seven wins and three losses.

Returning eighth graders Kerrie Bourque and Caroline Deignan quickly became team leaders who assisted in running practices and planning strategies. The other returning eighth graders, Brooke Cragan, Kenzie Dray, Katie Hendrickson and Caroline Howe, also kept the team running smoothly through their leadership and experienced play. Each of these talented eighth graders did an outstanding job, giving their all offensively and defensively. Eighth graders new to the team this year were Georgia Guttaduaro, Nikki Howard and Caroline Materne. They made strong contributions to the team, especially on defense.

Returning seventh-graders Morgan Evans and Rebecca Shenton demonstrated an increase in strength and skills over last year, adding offensive moves and rebounding to the team. New seventh-graders Monica Diercks, Victoria Isenstein and Julia Lesses, added a good sense of aggressiveness to their skills. Sixth-graders Lauren Tierney and Lindsey Verrill were also great additions to the team, adding their speed as well as aggressive play.

This was a wonderful season. Our team had great depth and all the players were able to jump into the game when needed. After losing to Acton and St. Jeanne d'Arc in mid-January, the team worked on correcting their mistakes. In February, the Carlisle girls faced these two teams again and came out with two solid wins.Their hard work and team play really paid off. Good luck to the eighth graders next year in high school. At the middle school next year, the rest of us will be returning to work on another great season.
