Boys basketball team celebrates great season
The boys basketball program attracted over 40 players this year, allowing us to create three teams: a varsity, JV and sixth-grade boys basketball team. Our goal was to provide everyone an opportunity to play basketball without having to cut anyone. Many thanks to Coach Maniachi for stepping up and coordinating the boys' JV and sixth-grade teams.
The varsity boys basketball team had a very successful season with an impressive record of seven wins and four losses. The team had great depth this year allowing for three very balanced lines of players. Eighth graders, and returning veterans, demonstrated great leadership on and off the court. Returning for his third year on the varsity squad, Kevin Clarke did an outstanding job as point guard. Returning for their second year were veterans Zak Swanson, Zander Ansara, Dylan Benkley, Phil Lavely, Eric Debruzzi and Evan Scarlett. All of these young men brought great leadership to the team and served as role models for our younger players.
New to the team this year were eighth graders David Reed and Dylan Mariano, who dominated the boards on defense; Alec Ahee who brought an amazing outside shot to our offensive team; and T Ritz who, despite having started the season on injured reserve, came to every practice and provided support for his teammates. Upon his return, he added great strength on offense and defense. Our seventh graders included Cam McGrorey, Griffin Creighton, Bennet Simonton, Jackson Forelli, Peter George and Tim Lamere. These young men are an amazing group of athletes who played with great poise and confidence and provide us with a very strong foundation going into next season.
Many thanks to the dedicated group of parents who followed and supported us, provided snacks and waited patiently for the bus to return from away games. The players and coaches are very grateful for your loyalty and support.
