Seatbelt enforcement campaign gets results
The "Click It or Ticket" campaign mounted by the Carlisle Police Department from November 14 through 30 was intended to support seatbelt compliance and awareness. According to Officer Andy Booth, who coordinated "Click It or Ticket" efforts, grant money for the program made 24 hours of extra police duty possible. Booth says ten out of the 59 stops made resulted in citations for noncompliance with seatbelt regulations. One operator of a stopped vehicle was arrested for operating after suspension of a license, seatbelt violation and an outstanding warrant.
While seatbelt compliance was the primary focus of the operation, 29 other citations were issued and included speeding, unregistered vehicles, and uninspected vehicles. Fines generated from the "Click It or Ticket" operation go into the town's general fund.
Booth says a "You Drink & Drive, You Lose" campaign will be the next special police operation. It will be held from December 19 to January 8. This extra policing is possible because of grant money for additional police coverage.
