Police grant enables additional traffic monitoring
Once again the Carlisle Police Department would like to announce it has received grant money to conduct extra traffic enforcement over the next few months. The grant is funded through the Governor's Highway Safety Bureau (GHSB) which is conducting its fourth year of the Click It or Ticket, and You Drink and Drive, You Lose campaigns.
The first Click It or Ticket mobilization is underway and will extend through November 27. A second mobilization will take place sometime next year; the dates have not yet been set. The first You Drink and Drive, You Lose mobilization will take place over the holiday weeks in late December, 2005 and early January 2006.
Massachusetts has taken part in this program since 2002. According to the GHSB, safety belt use has gone from 51% in 2002 to 65% as of June 2005. The goal of this campaign is to increase safety belt use to 67%.
The Carlisle Police Department will continue to take a zero-tolerance approach towards anyone found in violation of the seat belt law. Violators will be subject to a $25 fine.
Please help keep Carlisle's roads safe, buckle up and have a designated driver. Do not drink and drive.
