Fire department receives $90,000
The Carlisle Fire Dapartment has received a $90,000 grant from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for a vehicular exhaust system under the 2005 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. At Town Meeting in May, Carlisle voters approved a $10,000 capital exclusion (part of Article 9) toward the system, under the assumption the grant would be forthcoming. The system will vent the station while fire trucks are running to reduce the health hazard of exhaust build-up. Said DHS spokesman Matt A. Mayer, "We recognize the importance of the Fire Act Grants to our nation's fire departments and we will continue to work closely with the fire service community to meet their needs."
