Emergency supply kit

The Northeast Homeland Security Regional Advisory Council suggests the following list of items for an emergency supply kit. Store in a dry, cool place known to all family members. Replace water and food every six months. Review routinely and account for any changes in family needs.

• Three-day supply of water per person (one gallon per person per day)

• One complete change of clothing per person

• Battery-operated flashlight and radio with new batteries

• Emergency preparedness manual with contact phone numbers

• First aid kit

• One-week supply of non-perishable food

• Non-electric can opener and utility knife

• Cash or travelers checks and change

• Blankets or sleeping bags

• Paper cups, plates, and utensils

• Soap and liquid detergent

• Toilet paper, wipes

• Personal hygiene items and feminine supplies

• Prescription and non-prescription drugs such as aspirin, antacid, anti-diarrhea medicine

If you have pets add:

• Medication and medical records in a waterproof container

• Sturdy leashes, harnesses, carriers

• Photos of pets in case they are lost

•Food, water, bowls, cat litter/pan, can opener

• Pet beds and toys if easily transportable

• Written instructions (feeding schedules, vet, problem behaviors) in case pet must be boarded

• Secure collar with identification and temporary contact info, if applicable.
