Second Lieutenant Newman to speak on Memorial Day
Recently returned from Iraq, Second Lieutenant Daniel Newman of Carlisle will give the keynote address at Carlisle's traditional Memorial Day celebration. The events will be held on Monday, May 30 from 9:30 a.m. until noon in Carlisle Center. Everyone is encouraged to come out and honor those who have served and are serving our country.
The day's event will begin with the flag raising on the Common at 9:30 a.m. At 10 a.m. formal exercises will be held in the Corey Auditorium with the keynote address by Newman. He returned in February of 2005 from Iraq after serving over a year. He is a member of Charlie Company 3rd of the 172nd Mountain Infantry Regiment out of Manchester, New Hampshire National Guard.
After the formal exercises a parade will follow the traditional route down Church Street to Green Cemetery, up Bedford Road to the monument at the rotary, and finish at the town flag pole on the Common.
Immediately after the parade, juice and cookies will be served to the children outside the Carlisle School cafeteria.
The First Religious Society invites townspeople to attend their traditional Memorial Day luncheon at Union Hall following the parade.
