Carlisle Senior Band wins 17th consecutive gold medal
Carlisle Middle School's Senior Band was awarded a Gold Medal for their performance at the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association's (MICCA) large ensemble festival on Sunday, April 3, in Hopkinton, Massachusetts. The 72-member band received unanimous superior ratings from judges, Dr. Bruce Moss (Director of Bands, Bowling Green State University), Gary Barton (Texas Music Educators Association and Vice-President of the National Band Association), and Dr. Mark Fonder (Professor of Music Education, Ithaca College). Students performed at Hopkinton High School for the first time, and were successful in adjusting their concepts of balance and tonal projection in this somewhat smaller, more intimate venue.
As usual, a huge contingent of Carlisle parents, siblings, friends, and extended family members were enthusiastic supporters of the band, both in the performance hall itself, and in the clinic with Dr. Fonder afterward. Appreciation is also extended to Carlisle's administration (Marie Doyle, Stephen Goodwin, Michael Giurlando, and Steve Moore) for their continued support of the arts department. Finally, congratulations to senior band members — their dedication to the pursuit of musical excellence continues to be a model for others.
