Why not have Town Clerk
work 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.?

To the Editors:

If the Town Hall is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. then the Town Clerk's hours should be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Residents and others call upon the Town Clerk for a broad catalogue of services. Many of the services require a visit to Town Hall and the filing of paperwork and signatures. It is frustrating to be told, "Too late, come back tomorrow." It must be frustrating for other town employees to field questions and do business for the Town Clerk when she is not there. It must be frustrating for the Town Clerk who is unable to meet the demands of the job in a timely and appropriate way. Everyone suffers. If the Town Hall is open, it only makes sense to have the Town Clerk be there too.
