Boys middle school JV basketball: a success story
The Carlisle Huskies Junior Varsity Boys basketball team became the first squad in the young JV program to win a game! In only the school's second year with a boys JV team, the Huskies finished the season with two wins and four losses. Head coach Andrew Mendosa had twenty (20) sixth- and seventh-graders on the team, including: Drew Albano, Griffin Creighton, Sean Fidler, Jackson Forelli, Peter George, Nick Hanson, Alex Kinmonth, Marcus Kulik, James Lamb, Tim Lamere, Jon Mayer, Cam McGrory, John McNamara, Justin Morgan, Nick Reichheld, T Ritz, Bennet Simonton, Nick Stoico, Ryan Symonds, and Cam Vozehgoo.
The season began on January 4 with a crushing 39 to 6 loss away versus Lincoln. However, the Huskies rebounded for a 27 to 21 victory at home over Parker Charter School on January 14. Jackson Forelli led the Huskies with 8 points. The next game was away versus Weston, and the Huskies fell 35 to 24 for their second loss of the season. Bennet Simonton led the Huskies with 6 points. Game four was against Lincoln at home on January 20. The Huskies fought hard to revenge their season opening loss to Lincoln, but fell just short in a 35 to 29 losing effort. Griffin Creighton led the Huskies with 8 points while Peter George went 6 for 7 from the foul line. The Huskies finally defeated the Lincoln team on February 7 at home. The boys fought hard all game against a bigger and stronger Lincoln squad, and came away with a 34 to 29 victory that was decided in the last moments of the game. Jackson Forelli led all scorers with 12 points. Timmy Lamere added 9 points, while Cam McGrory scored 5 points, including a couple of game- clinching free throws at the end of the match. The Huskies ended the season with a very close loss to Weston at home on February 9. Jackson Forelli scored 11 points in a 29 to 26 losing effort.
The JV Boys Huskies team improved dramatically over the course of the brief season. The starting unit consisted of Bennet Simonton at point guard, Tim Lamere and Peter George at the wings, and Jackson Forelli and Griffin Creighton at the forward spots. The deep Huskies bench provided outstanding support, especially from Cam McGrory, T Ritz, and John McNamara. The boys worked very hard together, and showed great toughness against bigger, stronger and more athletic opponents. Coach Gale should be very excited about next year's varsity team!
