CCHS girls winter sports:
Seven cross-country skiers named All-Stars Cross-country
In the girls cross-country ski team tradition, the team ruled the Dual County League, reclaiming their first-place rank. This year's team was led by seniors Karin Knudson and Kelsey Smithwood of Concord. Junior Cassi Knight returned to the varsity team and was among the seven athletes on the team named League All-Stars. Knight also placed second or third on the team in all of this season's races. Sophomore Olivia Cooney improved a lot from last year, and helped the team accumulate their winning scores at league meets. It does not surprise many that the C-C team stole seven out of the ten All-Stars spots in the competitive league. The team pulled through the State Meet, placing fourth, after one of their leading teammates had to drop out of the race.
Losing two of their top skiers did not keep the girls alpine ski team from having another top-notch season. Not only did the team dominate in the Dual County League meets, they also placed second overall at the State Meet, with three of their athletes placing in the top 20 spots. Senior and Captain Elizabeth Hollingsworth placed 12th at the League Meet and was one of the skiers who competed at States. Returning juniors Ashley Hawes, Courtney Nelson and Hilary Green were named DCL All-Stars and also competed in the State Meet. Hawes placed first at the League Championship meet and first in both slalom races at the State Meet. Hawes was also recognized as a Boston Globe All-Scholastic and received the Skier of the Year Award. Nelson finished second at the League Meet and at States placed fourth in the giant slalom and second in the slalom. Green placed fourth at the League Meet and had two solid races at States, placing in the top 20.
