Town Clerk asks for more hours
Town Clerk Charlene Hinton explained to the Selectmen, on February 8, that she is currently working 35 hours a week and only getting paid for 20.
The Town Clerk's office hours of 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday, do not deter many from seeking her services "after hours" when the rest of the Town Hall is still open for business. Hinton requested that her salary be increased to $53,123, thereby allowing the Town Clerk's office to be staffed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with an additional hour per day to complete paperwork.
The present level services budget allocates $26,894 for the Town Clerk's job, thus requiring the Finance Committee (FinCom) to find an additional $26,229. FinCom Chair David Trask, seated in the audience, was unsure where he would find the extra funding, but "if we have to find it, we'll find it somewhere."
The Selectmen declined to vote on the additional Town Clerk funding until FinCom can find it.
