State funds traffic enforcement
Six unhappy motorists got a memorable Christmas surprise on December 23 when they were stopped, arrested, booked at the police station, bailed, and ordered to apear at the next court session.
The enforcement activity was the second of six enforcement mobilizations funded by a grant obtained by Carlisle Officer Andy Booth. Under this grant (See Mosquito, "Police grant allows traffic enforcement activities", December 10, 2004.) 20 additional hours of traffic patrol supplement regular police shifts in one 24-hour period. The mobilization on the 23rd was part of the "You Drink and Drive, You Lose" program, and appropriately, three of the six arrests were for OUI (Operating Under the Influence). Additional enforcement mobilizations are planned on Memorial Day and July 4.
