Shorts from the RSC, Dec. 14
• Teachers worthy of praise. CCHS Principal Art Dulong praised math teacher John Bookis, who has earned the National Board Certification for Teaching Standards. This shows his dedication and professionalism particularly since it was done on his own time and with his own money. Dulong also congratulated June Patton, the Math Team Coach. The Math Team won a Greater Boston competition. This is a great accomplishment because the CCHS team had done so well in the past, it was bumped up into the large-school division. Praise was also given to Tom Hart who coached the extraordinary cross-country team, which came in second in the state championship and had two All-Scholastic winners on the team, including Carlisle's Cassi Knight.
• 2005-2006 calendar approved. Classes at CCHS will begin on September 7, 2005. The last day of school will be June 22, 2006, if there are no snow days. If there is more than one snow day, school will be in session the last week of June. RSC members recognized that prolonging the school year will upset some family vacation plans and summer camps, but noted that there is no flexibility in the schedule unless school were to start before Labor Day, which was frowned upon. The CCHS calendar has Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur as vacation days. Superintendent Brenda Finn said it was too costly to have these days in session due to the number of substitute teachers needed.
