Underwater creatures swim across walls

Photographer Judy Richardson captured this image of a shark when diving in Papua, New Guinea.

If you visit the Gleason Library in December, you may find yourself thinking about a vacation to a warmer climate. The mesmerizing photographs in the show "Underwater Adventures in the South Pacific and the Galapagos" by Judy Richardson have the subliminal effect of making you want to dive "down under." Unless, of course, you have an aversion to sharks

"I selected these photographs from thousands," says Richardson. A Carlisle resident on Skelton Road since 1977, Richardson and her husband Fontaine have taken about seven trips to the South Pacific since 1980. The show includes 14 pictures from these visits, as well as four pictures taken of more local nature. The framed photographs range in size from 8x10 to 16x20.

An avid diver and photographer, Richardson has successfully transformed her favorite hobbies into art. Prints of the photographs on display are "for sale upon request." All the proceeds will benefit the library.
