C-C vs. A-B football on ESPN tonight
Fifty-two years ago the Concord High School Patriots football team won its fortieth game in a row to set a new Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association record for most consecutive wins. Tonight, the Acton-Boxborough Colonials will attempt to break this long-standing record facing, ironically, the Concord-Carlisle Patriots. The Colonials tied the record last Thursday by beating Bridgewater-Raynham 20-0. The last time A-B lost a football game was in 2001 when they lost their season opener to Chelmsford High, 28-21. Acton has also won 11 straight Dual County League titles. Some of this year's seniors were on the field that night in 2001 and they have carried the program to its current level. The Colonials have built a winning tradition through hard work, dedication to the program and, most importantly, teamwork. This game will be emotionally charged as members of the '48-'52 Concord teams are introduced in the pre-game ceremony and A-B will be honored after the game no matter the outcome.
A-B and C-C will come to play tonight and no matter the outcome, it's sure not to be a disappointment. If A-B is victorious, they will have won 41 games in a row, setting the new state record for consecutive wins. If A-B loses, they will have tied Concord High's ancient record and C-C will have toppled the best program in the state. Either way, the honor is well deserved.
Parts or all of the game will be broadcast live on ESPN as well as on local television beginning at 7:30 p.m. Kick-off time has been changed to 7:30 to accommodate the television schedule. The game will be played at Acton's Leary Field, at 36 Charter Road. Come early; parking may be limited.
