Great Brook parking fees to return in '05

A phone call from the state Department of Conservation and Recreation two weeks ago informed Carlisle farmers Mark and Tamma Duffy that the state had rejected the park's plea to cancel the $2 parking fee.

No fees are being charged this year, but next year ice cream stand patrons will need to obtain a ticket from the dispenser in the parking lot, giving 30 minutes of free parking. "30 minutes is not enough," says Tamma Duffy. "But we were told that they will not enforce [the 30 minute limit]. To me it makes no sense."

The ice cream stand is an important source of income for the Duffys. "It's not greed; its survival," says Tamma.
