Mystery bird is a peafowl

Last week the Mosquito asked if anyone could identify this bird, seen by Darrol DeLong of Fern Lane, who took this photo of a bird that appeared in his yard. It made an extremely loud cry. It never attempted to fly away.

Ken Harte of Estabrook Road submitted an identification: The "mystery bird" on page 11 of the June 18 Mosquito is a female black-winged peafowl (Pavo cristatus mut. nigripennis). This form is a mutation of the Indian peafowl, and commonly kept in captivity. Has anyone heard from the person who lost it?
