CSC prepares for 2004-05 Fitzgerald, Dockterman named to Regional School Committee; Burkel to chair CSC
The Carlisle School Committee (CSC) welcomed its two new members, Christy Barbee and Wendell Sykes, during the first official committee meeting of their terms on Wednesday evening, June 2.
Nicole Burkel was elected chair of the CSC for the 2004-05 school year. Christy Barbee will be the liaison to the School Building Committee since she is already a member of that committee. Wendell Sykes will be an alternate representative to the School Building Committee. Michael Fitzgerald will continue as one of the two Carlisle representatives to Concord-Carlisle Regional School Committee (RSC).With a little bit of quiet pressure CSC member David Dockterman agreed to fill the remaining position on the RSC.
Being on the School Committee means a major time commitment and an RSC assignment doubles it. Committee members discussed that the general workload of committee members might be less next year since they will not have the hiring process of a new superintendent. However, new Superintendent Marie Doyle will need help becoming comfortable in her first year in the Carlisle school system.
One other big project is the construction of the wastewater treatment plant. In addition, the CSC will need to pay attention to the space limitations developing at the school. Grade 4 currently has 110 students and Grade 3 has 104. When these classes reach the middle school, five sections of each grade will be required, but the current curriculum and teaching staff is configured for only four sections. Five teachers, instead of the current four, specializing in math, science, language arts and social studies, will be needed.
