Planning Board needs new members
As reported in last week's article on upcoming board elections, the Planning Board is completing the process of reorganizing its terms from five to three years. It is a seven-member elected board. For the election this May, there will be two 1-year terms, two 2-year terms, and three 3-year terms on the ballot. Four of the current members will be running for re-election for the one- and two-year slots to complete the terms for which they were originally elected.
Incumbents will not be running for the three new three-year terms and so the Board is urging members of the community to seek nomination for these positions at the upcoming caucus.
The work of the Board involves the review and approval of applications for the subdivision of land and special permits for development issued under the zoning bylaws, as well as planning for the future of the community. Though much of what the Planning Board does (applying state laws and local by-laws) can be learned while serving on the Board, those with backgrounds in planning, architecture, civil engineering or land-use law would be of the greatest help.
Good planning is critical to the future of Carlisle. If you are interested in running for any of these positions, please contact Planning Administrator George Mansfield at 978-369-9702 or Planning Board Chair Louise Hara at 978-287-4833 for more information. Town caucus is Monday, March 15, so please call today.
