Vivian Chaput killed in Florida car crash Ronald Chaput survives
Selectman Vivian Chaput was killed and her husband, Dr. Ronald Chaput, injured and hospitalized last Saturday night when their car was broadsided by another vehicle in Hollywood, Florida, where the couple was vacationing at their condo. The accident occurred about 9:30 p.m. when the Chaputs' vehicle made a left turn and was slammed by a vehicle coming from the opposite direction.
Accident under investigation
Carlisle Police Chief David Galvin said he had heard from the police in Hollywood but did not know the details of the accident or if any charge was filed. The only information the Mosquito has been able to obtain comes from a brief article in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale on March 8 which said that the Hollywood police are investigating the accident and have as yet filed no charges.
Chaput has been an elected official in Carlisle for over 25 years. She served on the Planning Board from 1978 to 1994 and has been a member of the Board of Selectmen from 1996 until the present. Her term would have expired in 2005.
It is not certain at this time whether Chaput's unexpired term will be filled by appointment, or whether candidates for the vacancy can still be nominated at the town caucus on Monday.
