Jonathan Beakley's Valentine's Day five-course meal
A few comments:
It is important to keep the portions small - there is a lot of food here. Serve Champagne with the first course, then red wine with the rest of the courses. The First Course comes from the book Cooking for Mr. Latte, A Food Lover's Courtship, with Recipes by Amanda Hesser. This book is a great Valentine's Day gift if your squeeze happens to be a gourmand.
The second course is red, red, red, and will match the roses on the table. The recipe comes from The New Basics by Julee Russo and Shelia Lukins.
The third course is adapted from an appetizer served at the romantic restaurant "82 Queen" in lovely Charleston, South Carolina.
The main course comes from Chez Panisse Cooking by Paul Bertolli.
