Shorts from the CSC, Dec. 3
• Basketball Schedule. Superin-tendent Davida Fox-Melanson presented the winter boys and girls basketball schedule to the Carlisle School Committee on Wednesday, December 3. Games in the surrounding towns of Concord, Bedford, Acton, Tyngsboro, Wellesley, Lincoln, and Weston and at the Diamond and Clarke Schools begin December 22 and continue until February 12, 2004.
Over 40 boys and 40 girls signed up to play. Fox-Melanson said, "Somehow we will have a Junior Varsity. I am confident we will find a way to pay for the extra teams. If students who want to play do not have a chance in Middle School they may never try to play again."
• Superintendent's Report. Fox-Melanson listed several events happening at the school. Children in Kindergarten through the Middle School were able to see a Native American Pow-Wow.
• Superintendent search. CSC Chair David Dockterman reported that the search committee has met and will meet again in January. They expect 20 to 40 applicants, which will be narrowed down to three or four finalists.
• Use of school playing fields. The CSC reaffirmed and updated the scheduling policy on the use of the school playing fields which affirms that "the Carlisle School Committee designates to the Carlisle Recreation Commission control over scheduling and use of the playing fields when they are not needed by the schools. In all instances the school will have priority in the use of the fields." CSC Chair Dockterman commented, "I love this. It is so simple."
