Girls field hockey has winning season

Varsity field hockey had a great season, coming close to making the state tournament and having one of the best Dual County League season records. The team had a total of 22 goals in their season, a huge success compared to last season's five goals. Eleven Carlisle girls were on the team this year: seniors Amanda Rao, Kristen Bergstrom, Kim Anderson, Joslyn Tarr and Vikki Prete; juniors Chrissy Lyons, Katie Brown, and Alison Probolus; and sophomores Theresa Barton, Vanessa Rao and Liz Price. Bergstrom mostly played right back and was a fast and aggressive defensive player on the field. She had also scored some goals off of corner hits in games, and played right wing in one game. Anderson played left halfback, and was also a strong defensive player, never letting a ball get past her. Tarr was the number-one sub who could play any position on the field. Rao was on the varsity team for her first year and played forward and was a solid left wing. Rao was especially good at stealing the ball from the other team. Prete was a great sub and a very confident player.

Lyons was a disciplined and eager player and, as Coach Gerald Smith says, was a "very coachable player." Brown and Probolus played great offense; Brown also had great skill inside the circle. Both Brown and Lyons will be next year's co-captains. Price had a great first season, scoring a total of six goals for the team during the season. Vanessa Rao, although out most of the season due to injury, was a faithful teammate and has high hopes for next season.
