The Carlisle Celebrations Committee is very pleased to have Joshua Klein as our keynote speaker at the Carlisle Memorial Day observances on May 26. Klein served on active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1985 to 1992, including duty during the Gulf War in 1991. He is a graduate of the Buckingham, Browne & Nichols School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and in 1985, Middlebury College, Middlebury, Vermont where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology with a minor in Economics. In 1992 he also received a Master's in Business Administration degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York.

Following his graduation from Middlebury College in 1985, Klein was accepted for training at the Naval Officers Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, where, upon graduation in 1986, he was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy. He then attended the Surface Warfare Officers School prior to an assignment to sea duty aboard the USS John King (DDG-3), a guided missile destroyer. The USS John King was deployed to Caribbean and South American waters.

Klein was then assigned to teach Naval ROTC at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. With the coming of the Gulf War, Klein volunteered for overseas duty. During the final four months of the build-up and war, he was based in Abu Dhabi where he served as naval liaison to the United Arab Emirates. Klein was then reassigned to R.P.I. to complete his tour as NROTC instructor.

In 1992 Klein elected to return to civilian life. He also chose to remain in the Naval Reserves and has served for the past 12 years presently holding the rank of Commander. His Reserve duty station is Newport, Rhode Island where his unit is tasked to provide port security and command and control where and when needed. Klein was recalled to active duty for a short period in Haiti, and again for an eight-month period in 2001-2002 in support of the war on terrorism following the September 11 assault on our country. Out of the eight months Klein was on active duty, four months were spent overseas in Spain and Italy at naval ports in support of operation Noble Eagle and Enduring Freedom, to include the ports of Rota and Tarragona in Spain.

Commander Klein presently attends monthly Naval Reserve drills weekends in Newport, Rhode Island and feels very strongly about his duty and responsibility to defend our country where and when needed. Klein also acknowledged that being in the Reserves requires a great deal of sacrifice by his family, but that his wife Colleen and family have always been fully supportive.

Klein is presently employed by the IBM Corporation and is based in Westford. As Sector Executive for Global Services, he is responsible for overseeing Integrated Technology sales and service in the Northeast Region.

Joshua Klein, his wife Colleen and their children, Megan, Jordan, Leandra and Aidan live on Lowell Street.
