From Hollywood and Broadway, to Greater Boston…

Don’t miss this jazzy masterpiece; See Fosse style at its best

CONCORD, Mass., April 11, 2003 -- The Concord Players, an award-winning community theater, is proud to present the musical Chicago! with a 20-member cast and full-pit orchestra ready to dazzle audiences with jazzy dance, lively song and vivid storytelling. This production, set in jazz-age Chicago in the late 1920s, is true to Bob Fosse’s style of choreography and his use of vaudeville to tell a story. Chicago opens on April 25 and will run on for three weekends through May 10 with matinees on Sunday, April 27 and May 4.

Shown here are John Pease, Jeanne Hogman, Linda Goetz, Ben DiSicipo, Julie Gatz, and Lewis Blair Chicago principles

An unforgettable tale of murder, exploitation and treachery, this acclaimed musical was first described as “gritty and shocking” but it also is witty and funny as it takes a cynical look at justice and morality in 20th century America. The story follows two women, Velma Kelly, a small time vaudeville hoofer and Roxie Hart, who aspires to the spotlight. They meet in the Cook County jail where they, along with other “Merry Murderesses” explain why their significant others “had it comin’…” Amos Hart, (Roxie’s woe-begone husband), Mama Morton, (a well-connected prison matron) and Mary Sunshine (who only sees the good in everyone), round out the cast.

Chicago is filled with hot music and catchy tunes. Popular numbers include “All That Jazz”, “Cell Block Tango”, and “Razzle Dazzle”. You won’t want to miss this one. Chicago will be performed at 51 Walden Street, Concord, Mass. on Friday & Saturday evenings, April 24 & 25 and May 2 & 3, 9 & 10 @ 8:00 P.M., and on Sunday afternoons, April 27 and May 4 @ 2:30 P.M.
