Forest management discussion planned

The New England Forestry Foundation and New England Forestry Consultants will conduct a program explaining the benefits of forest management and forest conservation to the Carlisle Conservation Commission on Thursday, April 24, at 7 p.m. at the Carlisle Town Hall. Whitney Beals of the New England Forestry Foundation ("NEFF"), Gary Goldrup, a professional forester with the New England Forestry Consultants (" NEFCo"), and attorney Ray Lyons will explain the NEFF and NEFCo's roles in preserving and managing forested lands, including town forests, throughout New England. In addition, Lyons will describe the Chapter 61 Forest Tax Classification program and explain the tax benefits that can arise from placing conservation restrictions on forested areas and other open spaces. The meeting is open to the public and will include a question and answer period. Sandwiches will be provided starting at 6:30 p.m.

The Carlisle Conservation Commission is considering implementing formal forest management practices on some of their properties to improve their habitat qualities, improve public access, and provide income for their further improvement and maintenance.
